While he is against dynasty politics, President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday said his three children were forced to run for an elective post in Davao City.

“Ayaw ko ng dynasty but we are forced,” Duterte said at the 44th Philippine Business Conference and Expo in Manila.

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is running for a reelection while Sebastian “Baste” Duterte will vye for the vice mayoral post.

Resigned vice mayor Paolo Duterte, on one hand, earlier filed his candidacy for a congressional seat in 2019.

In his speech, Duterte challenged his critics to go to Davao and conduct a survey on how people there perceive political dynasties.

“You conduct a survey… Tanungin mo ‘yung tao… because sasabihin nang mga barangay captains, ‘Ayaw namin niyan.’ Hindi na magkakampanya iyan kung ayaw nila,” the chief executive said.

“Usually, kapag naumpisahan ng isa, tuluy-tuloy na iyan kasi hingin ng mga tao,” he added.
