Former Internal Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares has denied socialite Gretchen Barretto’s claim that she allowed businesswoman Alice Eduardo pay a smaller amount than the tax she had been assessed.
In a Facebook post Friday (January 25), Henares called Barretto’s allegation “straight out of a comedy script.”
“The allegations of Ms. Barreto (sic) that people can come to me and fix their tax problem without paying the right amount is straight out of a comedy script. It is a well-known fact that not even my own family enjoyed any preferential service or treatment, much to their disappointment,” she said.
Henares urged Barretto to exercise “more thoughtfulness and restraint” before speaking.
The partner of businessman Antonio “Tonyboy” Cojuangco claimed in an Instagram live video that Eduardo avoided paying “hundreds of millions” of taxes after Kris Aquino helped her settle her tax liabilities with Henares.
Barretto said Aquino’s help in fixing Eduardo’s tax woes was an open secret because the businesswoman, who owns Sta. Elena Construction and Development Corp., liked to brag about it to her high society friends.
