Corrupt officials have no place in the government service, said incoming Bureau of Customs (BOC) chief Rey Guerrero.
“Walang lugar ang mga korap na tao saserbisyo sa gobyerno,” said Guerrero, outgoing administrator of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA).
President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday named the former Armed Forces of the Philippines chief as new Customs commissioner, replacing Isidro Lapeña, who will be moved to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
Guerrero believes that reforms will be implemented immediately should there be major reorganization in the BOC.
“Importante talaga na ‘yung tao sa Customs trusted nung leader for him to be able to implement ‘yung mga reforms,” according to him.
Asked if Duterte gave him a marching order, he said, “Ang sabi niya sa akin, simple lang ang marching order, like when I assumed sa MARINA at saka chief of staff, sabi niya, ‘Just do your job’,”
Guerrero further said, “And sabi ko naman sa kanya, although in-announce niya na, sabi niya magreport ako sa Palasyo bukas, but I told him bukas mag-usap muna kami ni General Lapeña so I can get some pointers and instructions, tapos nun, mag-report ako sa kanya.”
