CEBU CITY – A drug suspect who belonged to the regional list of top 10 high-value individuals was killed and a total of PHP1.7 million worth of suspected shabu was seized from him by authorities in a joint buy-bust operation here Saturday night.
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Central Visayas regional director Levi Ortiz said his office collaborated with the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit-7 to arrest the suspect identified only as alias “Kimpoy”, a resident of Sitio Sosco, Banawa Hills, Barangay Guadalupe, this city.
During the operation at the South Road Properties, Barangay Mambaling here, the suspect sensed that he was transacting with a police operative and fired at the latter, who was forced to shoot back and killing him in the process, Ortiz said.
He said operatives called for an ambulance but the suspect died before being brought to the hospital.
Ortiz told the Philippine News Agency that the cops recovered during the transaction “one big size pack and two medium pack heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu” with an estimated weight of 250 grams and PHP50,000 buy-bust money with one genuine PHP500 bill on top.
The operatives also found on the suspect’s body a big-sized transparent plastic sachet, 10 medium-sized transparent plastic sachets, two small-sized transparent plastic sachets, all containing white crystalline substance believed to be shabu with an estimated total weight of 250 grams, a black sling bag, a digital weighing scale with black case, two PHP100 bills and assorted transparent plastics.
The recovered drugs weighed a total of 500 grams with an estimated value of PHP1.7 million.
Meanwhile, Scene of the Crime Operation personnel found a .45 caliber pistol with a magazine loaded with four live ammunition and an empty shell at the site. (PNA)
