President Duterte blasts Dunkin Donuts anew on Tax Evasion Case

President Rodrigo Duterte will have the Prieto and Rufino Families make a run for their money as he orders a crackdown on the tax evasion charges filed against officials of Golden Donuts Inc. (GDI), the Philippine franchise holder for Dunkin Donuts, over its failure to pay more than P1 Billion in income and value – added taxes generated in 2007.

“One of these days — hindi ko hayaan ‘yan. Not because I’m vindictive. No, it’s not that. Matter of… Kailangan ko talaga habulin ‘yan. Magbayad kayo. Hindi man pwede basta-basta na lang na tayo magkamali lang — ‘yan ang ayaw ko.” – President Duterte said in a speech in Iloilo City.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) have formally filed the complaint against GDI on February 23, 2018 and although the latter denied the allegation saying the company has already settled its liabilities since 2012, BIR however, asserted that investigation showed that invoices provided by the suppliers “were intentionally altered in a desperate attempt to conform to substantiation requirements.”

The President also claimed that the Prietos, who operates one of the country’s first private newspapers known as The Inquirer, utilized their media business advantage as financial leverage and familiarity to go about its fraudulent moves discreetly for a long time.

“Yung doughnut owes government four billion, walang bayad, bayad ‘yan. Inquirer eh. Prieto eh. Kaya may leverage siya. Kaya sabi ko nga, kaya ako galit, mga p***** i** kayo, when you criticize us is it talagang galing — we are from outer space, mga demonyo. ‘Yung editorial ninyo,” an angry Duterte said.

“Sabi ko, kayong mga mayaman, kayo ‘yung mga number one nasa graft and corruption. Doughnut, ‘yung doughnut na pagkain, you owe government four billion. Panahon ni Bureau of Internal Revenue Commissioner Kim Henares, ang binayad ninyo eight million lang,” he added.

The Makati Regional Trial Court in August 2017, demanded Sunvar Realty, owned by both Prieto and Rufino families, along with other tenants, to leave the Mile Long Commercial Strip in Makati, which they occupied since February 1982 on a lease agreement that expired in 2002. The firm was also ordered to pay P478,200,600 worth of back rentals to the government.

Sunvar argued that it paid an ‘advance rental’ of P16.8 Million in property development with the understanding that the lease would last until 2027.

In a statement, the firm said, “It (Sunvar) has pursued legal remedies to resist ejectment firmly believing there is a binding contractual commitment on the part of the government to honor a lease that is set to expire only in 2027. Sunvar understands that the government has taken the opposite view.”

P5-million worth Land Cruiser, Sinauli na ni Sereno sa Korte Suprema

Sereno returns P5-million worth Land Cruiser to SC; Purchase of the vehicle unlawful says COA

Ousted Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno has returned to the Supreme Court (SC) her controversial service vehicle that worth P5-million Toyota Land Cruiser after her permanent removal from the top judge position.

Lawyer Jojo Lacanilao, one of former Chief Justice’s spokespersons confirmed and said said Sereno returned the Toyota land cruiser to SC custody on Wednesday, June 20, a day after final ruling last June 19.

“Return of the car to SC is confirmed.”

The purchase of the Land Cruiser figured in the impeachment complaint filed against Maria Lourdes Sereno at the House of Representatives by Atty. Larry Gadon.

Sereno was eventually unseated by a quo warranto petition filed by state’s top lawyer Solicitor General Jose Calida

After the return of the vehicle, the Commission on Audit had told the Supreme Court that the purchase of the luxury vehicle constituted a violation of the Government Procurement Act.

Approving the amount of the Land Cruiser P5,110,500 as the budget for the contract “prevented other suppliers from participating, thereby defeating the purpose of public bidding.”

In four-page Audit Observation Memorandum, COA also mentioned that the contract for purchase Sereno’s service vehicle was submitted six (6) months late to the auditor and lacked of supporting documents.

Last May 11, the majority justices of the high tribunal, in a historic ruling, voted 8-6 to oust Lourdes Sereno as its qualification as Chief Justice was questioned for failing to file her Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth (SALN) for a 17-year period during her stint as a professor at the University of the Philippines.

Ousted Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno has challenged President Rodrigo Duterte demanding for his resignation, saying that he admitted being behind the successful attempt to remove her from the helm of the Supreme Court.

Sereno was the first woman sitting the top post in the judiciary and supposed to stay in the office as Chief Justice until her retirement age in 2030 and also the first Chief justice to be ousted by the Supreme court thru a quo warranto.

Look: Taiwan politician uses Duterte photo in campaign ad to get votes

It is already well-known that President Duterte’s popularity goes beyond the shores of the Philippines, but one politician in Taiwan has taken this admiration to a notch higher.

A politician from Hualien, Taiwan is using President Duterte’s photo alongside with him in his campaign ad to stress his platform against illegal drugs.

Facebook user Nieviv Sucuaje uploads another photo to prove that the photo was indeed taken in Taiwan.

Taiwan’s local elections is in November 2018.

Known for its hardline approach in combatting corruption, crime and illegal drugs, Duterte cultivated a formidable admiration and support not only in his home country but also in neighbouring countries.

Observers even suggest that Duterte’s popularity rivals that of Putin and even Indonesian President Joko Widodo is following Duterte’s playbook in his war on drugs in his own country.

Prominent social media personality FJ Andrade noted on his Facebook page:

“This image is significant in more ways than one. First. The world is now accepting and admiring how our president is handling the drug problem, so much so that politicians from other countries are using PRRD’s image to get votes. Hindi lang siya effective sa Pilipinas, it seems even sa Taiwan.

The second and more important angle here is that PRRD’s image is being used positively in Taiwan – a country that is technically considered a rebel province by China. You would expect them to ridicule PRRD who is known to be close to the mainland government. Apparently there are those in the rebel state that thinks it is actually worthwhile to use the image of a character closely linked to that of their enemy – China. This is indeed a testament to the popularity and charisma of this old mayor from the province.”

This is something that has never been seen anywhere else in the world.

Filipinos must be so proud of their President.

President Rodrigo Duterte on Sunday presented a matrix of supposed illicit affairs of a slain priest.

The matrix titled “Possible Motive (Love Triangle)” has on it a picture of a priest named Fr. Mark Anthony with photos of eight women.

In his speech before residents of local officials of Tabongon, Cebu during the town’s fiesta celebration, Duterte said the priest could have been killed because of his various illicit affairs with the women.

He said some of the women are married to a vice mayor, a policeman, a soldier, and a businessman.

“Nganong ‘di ka man mamatay. May asawa bise mayor, may asawa pulis, may asawang sundalo, may asawa dakong negosyante. Eh ‘di patay ka gyud,” Duterte said.

“Mangabit kang asawa pulis, mangabit kang asawa vice mayor, patay ka gyud,” he added.

He also said that one of the husbands of the eight women could have had something to do with the death of the priest.

Duterte did not provide names, but a closer look during the presentation of the matrix shows that the name under the photo of the priest was Fr. Mark Anthony. The priest’s face was also not recognizable from the photo showed by the President during his speech.

The priest killed in the town of Gattaran in Cagayan province late April was Father Mark Anthony Ventura, 37. He was killed by gunmen right after celebrating a Mass at the town’s gymnasium.

Duterte also said during his speech that the New People’s Army does not have anything to do with the unnamed priest’s killing.

He also said that the government should not be blamed for the priest’s death.

Duterte did not disclose where he got the matrix.

Rappler Tumanggap ng P3M per month galing sa DOT sa panahon ni Aquino

Broadcaster Erwin Tulfo is fighting fire with fire. After he and his siblings – Ben Tulfo and Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo – received flak for conflict-of-interest laden P60 million ad contract in PTV-4, Erwin is moving to shift public attention to what he claimed as an anomalous contract between former Tourism Secretary Mon Jimenez and web-only news site Rappler.

In a video rant uploaded on YouTube, Tulfo showed documents signed by Jimenez and Rappler’s Carla Yap-Sy Su in August 2014 for a P9.575 million, three-month consultancy deal.

Based on the documents, Jimenez tasked Rappler to establish a tourism intelligence platform from September 15 to December 2014.

Under the contract, Rappler would submit a total of four intelligence reports and microsite and crowdsource platforms for three cities.

Erwin questioned why the Commission on Audit did not raise a red flag on this questionable deal.

“Bakit ‘di na-audit ang P3 million every moth na binibigay sa panahon ni PNoy na binibigay ni Secretary Mon Jimenez sa Rappler kay Maria Ressa. Bakit hindi niyo po ma-audit at maipaliwanag?” said Erwin.

Erwin said P3 million a month was too much for a consultant.
