Graft, Corruption and Criminal Charges kina Aquino, Abad, Garin at iba ay isang Political Harassment – Trillanes

Subalit sa panayam kay Senator Antonio Trillanes ng ANC sinabi nito na ” There was still no “definitive information” to back the charges and there was no proof that Dengvaxia has caused any death.

Gordon’s recommendation was “political harassment” in view of the Duterte administration’s attacks against vocal critics, dagdag ni Antonio Trillanes

At sa tweet ng twitter account ni Senator Lacson, sinabi nito na “it is difficult for me to believe that he was capable of committing graft and corruption.”

Sina Senator Lacson at Antonio Trillanes ang dalawang senador na tutol na makasuhan sina dating pangulong Benigno Aquino at iba pa.

De Lima Naghain ng Senate Bill 1699, o Human Rights Defenders Act of 2018

Sen.

Nakamit na ang Hustisya: Kuwait court sentences couple to death for Demafelis murder

A Kuwaiti court on Sunday sentenced in absentia a Lebanese man and his Syrian wife to death by hanging over the murder of a Filipina maid, a judicial source said.

The court issued the sentence in the first hearing in the case of Joanna Demafelis, the 29-year-old maid whose body was found in a freezer in Kuwait earlier this year.

The sentencing can still be appealed if the couple returns to Kuwait, the source told AFP on condition of anonymity.

The Demafelis murder triggered a diplomatic crisis between Kuwait and the Philippines, prompting Manila to impose a departure ban for its citizens planning to work in the Gulf state.

The Lebanese-Syrian couple was arrested in February in the Syrian capital Damascus following an Interpol manhunt.

Syrian authorities handed the husband, Nader Essam Assaf, over to Lebanese authorities, while his Syrian wife remained in custody in Damascus.

An estimated 252,000 Filipinos and Filipinas work in Kuwait and depend on remittances to help their families back home.

Rights groups have raised alarm around the plight of workers in the Gulf and other Arab countries, where migrant labour is regulated under a system known as “kafala.”

The kafala, or sponsorship, system ties migrant workers’ visas to their employers, prohibiting workers from leaving or changing jobs without prior consent.

Possible senatorial bets of the ‘Resistance Coalition’ that will match PDP-Laban

Last week, Liberal Party (LP) announced that they would form a political group that would match the senatorial bets of the ruling party PDP-Laban on the upcoming 2019 senatorial elections.

LP President, Senator Francis Pangilinan called the group ‘the resistance’ and he believed that the senate need a strong opposition that will resist the “slide to authoritarianism and anti-democratic rule.”

“We hope to help build together the broadest coalition of groups and individuals united behind defending our freedoms and our civil and political rights,” Pangilinan said in a statement released Tuesday.

Pangilinan also said that the LP need the support of other political groups to bring the “genuine opposition” in the 18th congress.

Because of this announcement, several netizens were curious on the possible bets of the Liberal Party that would face the candidates of the ruling party.

In the article posted by politics.com.ph, they gathered a ‘promo photo’ that showed the some of the old faces of the Liberal Party that might join the resistance in the senatorial election.

These are:

– Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV

– Magdalo party-list Rep. Gary Alejano

– Northern Samar Rep. Raul Daza

– Albay Rep. Edcel Lagman

– Dinagat Islands Rep. Kaka Bag-ao

– Quezon City Rep. Jose Christopher “Kit” Belmonte

– Cebu City Mayor Tommy Osmeña

– Former senator Mar Roxas

– Former senator TG Guingona

– Former senator Ramon Magsaysay Jr.

– Former Quezon Rep. Lorenzo “Erin” Tañada Jr.

It also carried a tagline “Isang boto lang po laban sa nakaupo.” which apparently referring to President Rodrigo Duterte.

But, one of the politicians who included on the list, Rep. Lagman said that he’s still have no plans to run for the senate.

However, he thanked the “Coalition ng Demokrasya” for including him into the list of the possible senate bets of the opposition.

“Thanks for the endorsement by the coalition ng demokrasya but I have no intention of running for the Senate at the moment,” Lagman said.

Meanwhile, PDP-Laban is still finalizing their bets in the upcoming senatorial elections.

Some of the possible bets of the ruling party are Senators Sonny Angara, Nancy Binay, JV Ejercito, Grace Poe and Cynthia Villar.

Special Assistant to the Vice President Bong Go, PNP Director General Chief Bato Dela Rosa and presidential spokesperson Harry Roque are also possible to run for the senate, however they’re still not confirming if they’re going to push it.

Pope Francis condemns churches turning into businesses, ‘It is scandalous’

Pope Francis condemns churches turning into businesses-it is scandalous

Pope Francis: Turning churches into ‘businesses’ is a scandal

Pope Francis condemned priests and laity who turn their parishes into a “business” by charging for things such as baptisms, blessings and Mass intentions – calling it a scandal that’s hard to forgive.

In Nov. 21, 2014, Pope told mass attendees in the Vatican’s Saint Martha guesthouse: “It is interesting, the people of God can forgive their priests, when they are weak; when they slip on a sin, the people know how to forgive them.”

“But there are two things that the people of God cannot forgive: a priest attached to money and a priest who mistreats people. This they cannot forgive! It is scandalous…”

The Pope centered his homily on the day’s Gospel from Luke in which Jesus turns over tables and drives out those who were selling things inside the temple, saying it is a sacred place meant for prayer and not for business.

While the many people who went to the temple to pray were good and searched for God, they were forced to pay in order to make an offering, the Pope explained, noting that although the temple was a sacred place to these, “there was corruption that scandalized the people.”

He recalled the biblical story of Hannah, the mother of Samuel, who was a humble woman that went to the temple and whispered her prayers in silence, while the priest and his two sons were corrupt and exploited the pilgrims who came.

“I think of how our attitude can scandalize people with unpriestly habits in the Temple: the scandal of doing business, the scandal of worldliness,” the Bishop of Rome said, observing how many parishes have a price list readily available for baptisms, blessings and Mass intentions.

The Pope then recounted the story of a young couple who were a part of a group of college students he led shortly after being ordained. When they decided to get married, they went to their parish to ask for the civil ceremony and Mass together.

When they asked, the couple was told that they couldn’t have the Mass in addition to the ceremony because the time slots for the ceremony were limited to only 20 minutes, the couple needed to pay for two time slots in order to have the Mass as well.

“This is the sin of scandal” the pontiff explained, and alluded to the scripture passage where Jesus tells those who cause scandal that it is “better to be thrown into the sea.”

When those who manage God’s temple and its ministry, including both priests and lay people, become businessmen, “people are scandalized. And we are responsible for this. The laity too! Everyone,” the Roman Pontiff continued.

Preventing scandal is the responsibility of everyone, he said, because if we see this business-mentality going on in our parishes we need to have the courage to say something to the priest.

“It is scandalous when the Temple, the House of God, becomes a place of business, as in the case of that wedding: the church was being rented out.”

Pope Francis noted how when Jesus made his whip and started driving the people out of the temple it was not because he was angry, but rather because he was filled with the wrath of God and zeal for his house.

Jesus, he said, has “an issue with money because redemption is free; it is God’s free gift, He comes to brings us the all-encompassing gratuity of God’s love.”

So when a church or a parish start doing business it’s like saying that salvation is no longer free, the Pope explained, which is why Jesus takes his whip out in order to purify the temple of the corrupt.

He noted how the feast of the day commemorates the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Temple, saying that Mary enters the temple as a young, simple woman like Hannah, and prayed that she would help keep God’s temple pure.

“May she teach all of us, pastors and those who have pastoral responsibility, to keep the Temple clean, to receive with love those who come, as if each one were the Blessed Virgin.” /Read full: CNA
