President Duterte “offered” China to become the third telco in the Philippines

ANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte “offered” China to become the third telecommunications operator in the Philippines, his spokesman said Monday.

Duterte made the proposal to Chinese Premier Li Keqiang during a meeting in Malacañang last Nov. 15, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque told reporters.

“China has the capital and the technology to provide efficient telecoms service,” Roque said, adding there was “no doubt that they are among the biggest in the world.”

Roque said the President “offered to China the privilege to operate the third telecoms carrier in the country,” during his meeting with Li.

Any such investment from China will need to comply with the Constitution, Roque said.

PLDT Inc and Globe Telecom are the 2 major carriers in the country.

San Miguel Corp sold its telecommunications assets to the 2 giants last year and abandoned its plan to set up a third player. – source

New Frigate Warship From US Will Be Named BRP Rodrigo Duterte

US President Donald Trump told President Rodrigo Duterte that the next Hamilton-class frigate to be donated by the US government to the Philippines will be named after him. The statement was only revealed by Duterte to the Philippine Navy on Wednesday during a military briefing at Fort Bonifacio.

The United States government has already delivered two Hamilton-class frigates to the Philippines. The BRP Gregorio del Pilar and BRP Ramon Alcaraz, both operated by the Philippine Navy.

BRP stands for Barko ng Republika ng Pilipinas, and President Duterte will be the first living person to have his name carried by a Philippine Navy ship.

Trump told Duterte that the next ship will be delivered around May next year.

The Hamilton-class cutter was the largest class of vessel in the United States Coast Guard until replaced by the National Security Cutter, aside from the Polar-class icebreakers. The hull classification symbol is prefixed WHEC.

The cutters are called the Hamilton class after their lead ship, or “Secretary class” because most of the vessels in the class were named for former Secretaries of the Treasury (with the exception of “Hero-class cutters” Jarvis, Munro and Midgett,).

Only the United States and the Philippines are currently operating the Hamilton-class, with 10 in US and two in the Philippines on active service.

Trump said the ship to be transferred to the Philippines is currently undergoing a major reconditioning and repair at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Florida.

He also said that the BRP Rodrigo Duterte will be the first PH Navy ship to be armed with missile system as its armament will not be removed unlike the first two ships which were stripped-off their sophisticated equipment.

– source

Kris Aquino Slammed Mocha Uson And Vowed To Beat Her In Senate Duel

Former Presidential Sister and Media Queen Kris Aquino renewed her rhetoric to run for senator on the next elections if Mocha Uson decide to enter the senate race, Aquino told her best friend Boy Abunda on Sunday.

Aquino’s husband, Daniel Magtira tried his luck on 2016 and lost. That was the second time Magtira ran for senate after being disqualified on 2013 filing of certificate of candidacy.

“If Mocha can do it, why can’t I diba?” Aquino told Abunda.

When Abunda jokingly asked about Aquino how she can beat Mocha if the latter have more social media followers that her, Aquino gave a convincing lengthy answer.

“Actually Tito Boy, nong Mayor pa lang si Presidente Duterte at wala pang balita kung tatakbo sa pagka pangulo, ang Mocha Girls at si Mocha Uson ay hindi pa kilala. It’s fair naman siguro kung sasabihin ko na ginamit lang ni Mocha ang candidacy ni Pres. Duterte para palakihin din ang social media base niya. She is nobody if not because of Duterte and that is an undeniable fact”, Aquino said.

“Sa entertainment industry dati, si Mocha ay hindi kilala dahil hindi naman siya lumalabas sa telebisyon. Mostly ang fans nila ay mga bar goers kung saan sila malimit magpe-perform”, she continued.

“Sa tingin ko mali ang perception ng pangulo na malaki ang naitulong ni Mocha Uson sa kanya. Kahit sinong unknown celebrity non kung ginawa ang ginawa ni Mocha, na siya ang nag-come-out para supportahan si Pres. Duterte, siguradong lalaki din ang social media base niya”, and take note ha, her number of followers did not scare me at all”, Aquino said.

The media queen has been rumored several times before to run as senator but elections came and she didn’t. This time might be different.

“Siguro masyado lang akong na-cha-challenge dahil sa announcement ni Sec. Andanar. I’m not sure yet but just in case she pursue her candidacy, I will do my best to beat her, at least in the senate race”, Kris added.

The next senatorial elections will be on 2019, and President Duterte and some people closed to him are already contemplating about their candidates on the said coming elections.

Pres. Duterte to declare NPA as terrorist group

Peace talks have stalled between communist rebels and the government, but now President Rodrigo Duterte also wants to declare the New People’s Army (NPA) as a terrorist group.

“I’ll be issuing a proclamation. I will remove them from the category of a legal entity or at least a semi-movement which would merit our attention, placing them pareho sa (the same as in) Amerika, terrorist,” Duterte said in a speech, Saturday.

The rebel group has been on the United States’ terror list since 2002.

Duterte said he will consider the communist rebels as criminals, after the death of a four-month-old baby and two other civilians on a November 9 ambush in Bukidnon.

The NPA apologized and took full responsibility for the attack, but Duterte was doubtful of the rebel group’s statement.

“You know, that is an intentional act. It is not an accident. ‘Wag mong sabihin ‘di mo alam ‘yan na may disgrasya ‘yang bata namatay (Don’t say it’s an accident, and you didn’t know a child died),” Duterte said.

A police in Davao City and a paramilitary member in Negros Oriental were also killed on November 13 and 15, respectively, after alleged attacks of the NPA.

“We will file terrorist, murder lahat. Arson with murder. Lahat na. Because I would consider them criminals already. Now, it’s a great conspiracy between itong mga BAYAN pati — they are in conspiracy with the rebellion going on,” Duterte said.

The President was referring to Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN), an alliance of left-wing organizations.

Duterte also threatened to go on an offensive against militant groups.

“We will study and maybe we will have a crackdown here somewhere. Nagsasawa na ako dito sa kalokohan nila (I’m tired of whatever they are doing),” the President said.

One of the groups under BAYAN slammed Duterte for the threat.

“That Duterte is contemplating a crackdown against activists and progressive groups speaks much of his antipathy to any criticism and his thirst for absolute power. Repression is the logical consequence of equating all dissent with destabilization,” Anakbayan national chairperson Vencer Crisostomo said in a statement Sunday.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in a Sunday statement supported the Presidents’ decision.

“Government has done its part and negotiated with sincerity. We totally agree with the Commander-in-Chief in calling the NPAs terrorists because it is clearly reflected in the numerous criminal/lawless/terrorist acts that they have been committing against defenseless and innocent civilians,” AFP Spokesperson Restituto Padilla said.

Under the Human Security Act of 2007, a person who is found guilty of the crime of terrorism shall suffer the penalty of 40 years of imprisonment, without parole.

This merits a heavier penalty compared to rebellion, which is punishable by reclusion perpetua, or 20 to 40 years of imprisonment, eligible for pardon after 30 years.

Terrorism under the law, includes rebellion, insurrection, murder, and arson, among others.

According to the 2017 report of Australia-based Institute for Economics and Peace, the Philippines is the 12th among 163 most affected by terrorism worldwide, and the first in Southeast Asia.

The ranking was based on the number of attacks and deaths resulting from these.

The report cited the NPA for carrying out attacks, although these were more on security forces and government officials.

Duterte suspended the fifth round of peace talks with the communist rebels on May 27 after an increase in the group’s offensive attacks throughout the country.

Back in January, the government tried to ask the United States to remove Communist Party of the Philippines founding chair Jose Maria Sison from the list of international terrorists.

Sison fled to The Netherlands three decades ago to seek political asylum, after he was  declared a terrorist by the U.S. Government. – source

“We will survive as a Nation, Maybe God gave you the money but we have the brains” -Duterte

“Forget it. We will survive, even if we have to eat dried fish and rice we will survive”, Duterte said after asked if he talked to EU President Donald Tusk

On tuesday, duterte made a strong comment and rejected the donation of Europian Union

According to the reports, the EU is supposedly to donate P6 billion aid to Marawi residents who are affected from the war against the Maute Group

He still persistent in rejecting the aid from EU, Keep your money. Do not Meddle with the sovereignty of my country. Do not impose conditions

We are not rich, we are poor. But we do not bargain dignity by accepting money with conditionals that are not really acceptable to us.

However, months ago President Rodrigo Duterte has told the United States and the European Union to “go ahead” and withdraw financial aid to the Philippines if they’re unhappy with his bloody anti-drug war. This is also one of the issues confronting before.

President Duterte told “Go away, bring your money to somewhere else. We will survive as a nation,”

“I do not expect the human rights [groups], I do not expect the EU to understand me,” said Duterte in a speech on Thursday. “Do not understand me. And if you think it’s high time for you guys to withdraw your assistance, go ahead. We will not beg for it.”

But in defending his police on Thursday, Duterte said foreign governments “will never understand the pain that we are suffering.

“These fools think (they can do anything) because the Philippines is a small nation,” he said. “Maybe God gave you the money but we have the brains.” – source

Tatlong Suspektadong Membro ng Abu Sayyaf Arrestado sa Quezon City

An Islamist plot to bomb a Manila shopping mall as US President Donald Trump and other world leaders arrived in the city for a summit has been foiled, Philippine police said today.

Three alleged members of the Abu Sayyaf militant group were arrested on November 10, authorities said, a day before leaders began descending on the capital for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit and other meetings.

“A terror attack could have happened if not for that interdiction,” the police said in a statement, adding that pistols and grenades were seized from the suspects.

The high-profile gatherings ended on Tuesday without any security incidents and there was no suggestion world leaders were ever in danger.

The summit meetings were held in sealed off venues to which access was strictly limited.

Police said they monitored one suspect’s Facebook posts, in which he hinted at a plan to launch terror attacks in Manila. Police did not say when the suspects were planning to carry out the attacks.

The posts included photos of powerful firearms and improvised explosive devices, with captions saying they would be used to kill “kaffir” (non-Muslims) and “munafiq” (apostates).

He also posted pictures of targets, including a mall and a park in the capital, police said.

However, police added they had asked prosecutors to file charges against the three for having unlicensed handguns, not in relation to a bomb plot.

Philippine police chief Ronald Dela Rosa told reporters officers were checking whether the suspects were linked to previous attacks.

The alleged militants — two 19-year-olds and a 24-year- old — were living in a northern Manila slum, largely populated by Muslim migrants. Police said the men came from the remote island of Basilan, an Abu Sayyaf stronghold around 900 kilometres (560 miles) south of the capital.

Seized from Jikiri were cal. 45, m1911 US Army, a magazine with four live ammunition, two M203 Rifle grenades, and six cellular phones.

Recovered from Sabtalin were a caliber 9mm with four live ammunition and a cellular phone, while Jhofar yielded caliber 45 colt M1911, with three live ammunition and a black sling bag.

Abu Sayyaf originated as a loose network of Islamist militants formed in the 1990s with seed money from Osama bin Laden’s Al-Qaeda network. It later splintered into factions, with some involved in crimes like kidnapping for ransom.

A faction in Basilan recently pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group. It besieged the southern city of Marawi in May, sparking a five-month battle with government forces that left over a thousand dead. (AFP) – source
