Mayor Sara’s stance on peace talks gets support

Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte is getting the support of the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) to exempt the city from the 15-day ceasefire with the communist rebels.

On Thursday afternoon, the CPOC pushed for the exemption of Davao City from the ceasefire and the Suspension of Military Operation (SOMO).

The ceasefire and SOMO is observed from December 23, 2019 to January 7, 2020.

Mayor Inday said the passage of resolution seeking exemption from the declaration is based on the records showing violations by the communist insurgents of previous SOMO and ceasefires.

“When there is a SOMO there is an increase of activities on the part of the NPA, they continue their recruitment and some other areas. Historically that is what we see on the data,” the mayor said.

Mayor Inday said the city will request the Office of the President to exclude Davao City from the declaration to counter atrocities by the New People’s Army (NPA) – the armed wing of the Communist Party of the Philippines.

“There were incidents in Camarines Sur and Iloilo despite the declaration of SOMO we do not want the same incident to happen in the city,” she said.

1003rd Infantry Brigade commander Colonel Nolasco Mempin said the exemption is beneficial to the city which already significant results in combating insurgency in the countryside through Peace 911.

Mempin said the request of Mayor Inday is greatly respected by the military forces.

“Base on the situation on the ground and the wisdom of our political leaders we respect and agree on the stand of the mayor. we also recognized the need to keep the security forces safe from any possible attack of the rebel group,” Mempin said. CIO

TANONG:

Hindi ba nasa gobyerno si Leni?
Anong e tweak? anong solusyon niya?

Wala akong sinabing ihinto ang Drug War kundi “Not to continue’ – Leni Robredo

P8-billion steel plant to rise in Candelaria, Quezon

The province of Quezon has just been adjudged by the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) as having the fastest economic growth in Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) region.

And for that an P8-billion steel plant will rise in a 32 hectare property in Candelaria, Quezon. The groundbreaking for the plant of Steel Asia was held at Barangay Malabanban Sur.

Quezon Gov. David Suarez said the steel plant was the result of a chance meeting in December 2018 with Yao, whose family is from Lucban, Quezon.
The governor is hoping that could be the start of the industrialization in the Quezon province.

Benjamin Yao, Steel Asia CEO and chairman, the plant will be the first in the country to manufacture wire rods and wire mesh. He added that currently, the country imports wire rods needed in making paper clips, staple wires, and screws.

The Steel Asia CEO, assures that Steel Asia will hire more than 15,000 construction workers and office staff, and priority will be given to Quezon residents.

The plant “will create many business opportunities to support the operation. Itxxxxxxxxxxxxxs will be formed by Candelaria’s entrepreneurs – whom one day maybe global exporters.” Yao added.

The plant is expected to be operational in two years, Yao said.

PNP informs Interpol of arrest warrant vs. Joma

0

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said it had already coordinated with the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) for the warrant of arrest issued against Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) leader Jose Maria “Joma” Sison and 37 others.

(This is our standard procedure to inform our counterparts abroad about persons or Filipinos who have a standing warrant of arrest),” said PNP spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac, in a press briefing.

“Kinakailangan ding maimpormahan sila dahil concern din sila sa kani-kanilang mga security (They have need to be informed also because they are also concerned about their own security),” Banac added.

On Aug. 28, 2019, the Regional Trial Court Branch 32 in Manila issued the warrant of arrest against self-exiled Sison and 37 individuals including National Democratic Front (NDF) consultants Luis Jalandoni, Prudencio Calubid, and Geronimo Pasetes.

RTC Judge Thelma Bunyi-Medina ordered the arrest of the 38 for their alleged involvement in the so-called Inopacan massacre in Leyte on Sept. 2, 1985. No bail was recommended.

Based on estimates of former rebels and the victims’ relatives, the Inopacan massacre, dubbed by the New People’s Army as “Oplan Venereal Disease”, claimed the lives of about 300 residents in Leyte province.

Banac said warrant of arrest will be immediately served once the PNP gets information from its foreign counterparts.

The entire PNP is ready to respond to whatever information we will get on their whereabouts),” he said.

The CPP-NPA is listed as a terrorist organization by the United States, the European Union, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the Philippines. (PNA / Christopher Lloyd Caliwan)
