The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) yesterday, July 16, allowed the entry of foreign nationals with long-term visas in the country beginning August 1, 2020.

The IATF, however, set conditions prior to the entry of these foreign nationals. They must first have valid and existing visas at the time of the entry. This means no new entry visa shall be accepted. They are likewise subject to the maximum capacity of inbound passengers at the port and date of entry, as returning overseas Filipinos will be given priority.

Foreign nationals must also secure a pre-booked accredited quarantine facility and a pre-booked COVID-19 testing provider.

In the same meeting, the members of the IATF prohibited spectators in all outdoor non-contact sports and exercises in areas under general community quarantine and indoor and outdoor sports and exercises in areas under modified general community quarantine.

In another development, the IATF authorized the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), in consultation with the Department of Finance (DOF), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the Department of Tourism (DOT), to recategorize certain industries for the resumption of their operations or gradual increase of operating capacity of industries that are now open.

The DTI is likewise given authority of the IATF to issue a negative list of industries which shall remain prohibited even in areas under MGCQ.

These recent actions of the IATF are in compliance with the directive to ensure the increase of the capacities of the business sector vis-Ă -vis available transportation to revitalize the economy in Metro Manila and Region IV-A. ###

Today in Philippine History, July 2, 1973, San Juanico Bridge was inaugurated

On July 2, 1973, the 2.16-kilometer long San Juanico Bridge, the longest bridge in the Philippines spanning a body of sea water between the islands of Samar and Leyte in the Visayas, was inaugurated.

The San Juanico Bridge is part of the Pan-Philippine Highway (also known as the Maharlika Highway). Its longest length is a steel girder viaduct built on reinforced concrete piers, and its main span is of an arch-shaped truss design. The bridge has 43 spans and medium size boats can pass beneath its large main arch, the top of which rises 41 meters above the sea.

(First Lady Imelda R. Marcos cuts the ribbon to mark the opening of the bridge. Julio Cardinal Rosales, the President Ferdinand E. Marcos, Mrs. Cristina Ford, and other guests look on.)

A project of the Marcos administration, the construction of the 21.9 million-dollar bridge was contracted to the Construction and Development Corporation of the Philippines (now the Philippine National Construction Corporation), which together with Japanese engineers conducted studies and designed the actual project.

Construction began in 1969 over San Juanico Strait from Cabalawan, Tacloban City in Leyte to the municipality of Santa Rita, Samar.

The San Juanico Bridge is considered one of the most beautifully designed bridges in the country.

Petition: Yes to Permanent Shutdown of ABS-CBN (Signature Campaign)

For over 30 years, ABS-CBN has been manipulating the minds of Filipino people. Partisan, bias, deceitful – those are just a few words to describe the network. It’s a propaganda machine that’s being used by oligarchs and a few greedy politicians to advance their personal interests. It’s responsible for the dumbing down of Pinoys because of their shows that promote terror, premature sex, drugs and unethical journalism. They make good things look bad and make bad things appear worse.

Former employees are coming out one after another to express how the management treated them like corporate slaves and abandoned them without due process. ABS-CBN is also the biggest purveyor of fake news. The insolence of Kapamilya artists have gone overboard that they are pleading for public sympathy to generate social pressure instead of using legal remedies. Let us not be deceived by their dramas. It’s about time that we put an end to the hypocrisy of the Lopezes.

Philippines will be so much better without ABS-CBN. Sign the petition if you believe that ABS-CBN should be permanently shutdown.

ABS-CBN Trading of shares resumes Monday

Media giant ABS-CBN Corp. will resume trading on Monday after complying with the disclosure requirements of the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE).

Trading of ABS-CBN’s shares had been suspended for eight days.

The PSE imposed a trading halt on May 6 after seeking added information on the impact of the National Telecommunications Commission’s (NTC) cease-and-desist order against the company.

The NTC said ABS-CBN’s Congressional franchise had expired on May 4 and thus it must stop radio and television broadcasts.

This would have a material impact on the company and ABS-CBN’s disclosure on Friday—a requirement before the trading suspension is lifted—explained why.

In the filing, ABS-CBN said free-to-air advertising from television and radio accounted for 50 percent of all revenues as of end-September 2019.

The business falls under ABS-CBN’s core media, networks and studio entertainment operations. As of September last year, these amounted to P23.3 billion, of which 68 percent came from free-to-air advertising.

“Even as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Philippine and global economy is yet to be fully realized, the order will put additional financial burden on the company,” ABS-CBN said in its filing.

ABS-CBN also provides cable TV and broadband services, which were unprofitable as of the third quarter last year. It likewise runs the indoor theme park KidZania Manila, which said on Friday it would remain closed until Aug. 15 to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

ABS-CBN’s disclosure to the PSE comes two days after the House of Representatives moved to grant the media giant a provisional franchise lasting until October this year. This will also pave the way for the company to continue its broadcasting services.

While advertising delivers the bulk of revenues, ABS-CBN said it continues to explore new ways to earn such as expanding its digital presence. ABS-CBN is also cutting costs and “rationalizing” capital investments, the filing showed.

It also committed to continue paying its debts to creditors. Long-term debts as of September last year amounted to over P21 billion.

In its filing before the Supreme Court challenging the NTC’s order, ABS-CBN said it was losing up to P35 million daily from the closure of its broadcasting business.

300K maaaring mamatay sa COVID-19 sa Bicol

0
